Qualified to teach, experienced in the workplace
Every teacher at Fenwick Street English holds a recognised qualification in English language teaching — CELTA, Trinity TESOL, or equivalent. More importantly, they work regularly with professionals and exam candidates. They know what speaking looks like under pressure in a meeting, what writing holds up in an email to a senior stakeholder, and what grammar actually matters when your job depends on it. This is not conversation practice. It is structured, purposeful work toward English that works.
Meet the team
Alice Chen
Eight years teaching business English across Asia and Europe, with particular focus on professional writing and presentation skills. Alice prepares students for high-stakes meetings and formal communications. She brings direct experience from five years in international corporate roles before moving into teaching.
James Mitchell
Specialises in exam preparation — IELTS, Cambridge qualifications, and professional certifications — with twelve years across different proficiency levels. James understands exactly what examiners listen for and how to build the confidence students need on test day. He teaches our intermediate and upper-intermediate groups.
Marina Rossi
Runs the beginners programme and specialises in adult learners returning to study after time away from formal education. Marina's teaching is patient and structured; she builds foundations that hold up under real workplace pressure. She has worked in education policy and understands the stakes for working adults.
David Okonkwo
Leads advanced-level teaching and one-to-one work with professionals in specialised fields — legal English, technical communication, academic writing. David has taught across three continents and brings depth in helping near-native speakers refine their English for high-stakes contexts.
How we teach
Every class follows the same principles, regardless of level. We weight speaking heavily — you spend most of the hour talking, not listening. Writing is practised every week and corrected to the standard you actually need: professional emails, exam answers, formal communication. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context, not as abstract rules.
Consistency matters. When you move from one level to the next, you recognise the teaching style and structure. You know what to expect. The same approach that worked at beginners still works at advanced — the content changes, the method does not.
In person or online — same teaching
The same teacher takes both the in-person and online groups at your level. If you switch between formats — in-person one term, online the next — there is no change in teaching style, no gap in continuity, and no need to adjust to a new voice or method. The standard stays consistent. The group stays small. The work remains focused on what you actually need.
